This “origin” story begins in 1845 when Logan as a child murdered his father with a bone penetrating through his ankle. Now it’s his brother Victor, who (contrary to popular belief) has already become Logan’s “dark side” modify pride. Frustrated by a string of heinous killings, Logan withdraws from the fight between humans and mutants that drives the X-Men stories but is pushed into hiding for vengeance.

Logan (Hugh Jackman), aka Wolverine, seeks consolation in his tragic history and appears to find love and happiness with Kayla Silverfox (Lynn Collins). Logan’s tranquil life is destroyed when his villainous brother Victor His Creed (Liev Schreiber) murders Kayla. Logan’s desire for vengeance leads him to the Weapon X program. There, he goes through a painful surgery in which his bones are fused with adamantium, making him nearly immortal and more than equal to Victor’s name.
This is a film with stressful special effects, possibly because it feels worn out before the story begins. Starts well, but a quick flash of FX fun (radioactive eyes, teleportation, diamond-hard skin, etc.) reveals how exhausted the series is. Even if the original’s societal ramifications are overblown, only the most cursory attempts are made here. This film’s atmosphere is dominant. It’s difficult to see how anyone other than a die-hard fan could keep them entertained.
Filming
Filming began at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney in late 2007. In January 2008, principal photography commenced in New Zealand. Dunedin was one of the places he chose. The Queenstown Lakes District Council contested the Department of Labor’s decision to allow Fox to store explosives in the local ice rink, which sparked outrage.
