Dying Light 2 takes place in the story’s new town, the fictitious Ville d’Or, and features a new gray-haired hero at the heart of the struggle. Aiden Caldwell, an outsider, a “pilgrim” deemed harmful to the world’s few surviving safe havens, travels to Villedor in pursuit of her sister Mia. His and Mia’s story is conveyed early and frequently inadequately, through hazy flashbacks that Aiden cannot trust.

Just telling players that Aiden and Mia are brothers is enough to get them excited about a possible reunion, but Techland wants someone who isn’t related to Mia to invest in her. We attempt to demonstrate she is transformed into a living MacGuffin, tasked with justifying Iden’s video game exploits as a side-questing superstar capable of leaping over skyscrapers at the same time.
There are many people in Aiden’s life who are unique and entertaining at times, but they all have one thing in common. Voice acting is poor. Jonah Scott, who plays Aiden, does well, and Rosario Dawson, who plays his part-time ally Ruwan, gets some credit, although her vocal abilities are limited. That’s all there is to it.
Other characters attempt to imitate heart palpitations but fail due in part to poor acting. The less significant the mission, the poorer the acting. The only thing more unpleasant than how a character delivered a specific sentence is that they said it at all. Writing frequently falls short of the mark.

The final act and terrible final boss upend his hopes of having anything to save him after the 50th hour of the game, making Dying Light 2’s worst story even worse. This is a game with 500 hours of material, owing to the number of objectives and branching pathways, but if my job didn’t demand it, I would have bypassed the scene and dialogue possibilities after the first hour or so.
